Another one bites the dust! Well not bites the dust exactly. Just puts his campaign on hold, so that in case the party conservative and the rest of the arguing Republicans come to their senses he will be ready to come back. Kind of like telling the Donner party if you need supplies; you can call me anytime.
It looks as if Mitts quest to be President will have to wait a while. Some political analysts are saying he is looking ahead to 2012! It is a bit early to start running for that, but if he wants to, why not. The reality of it is that, all the Kings horses and all the Kings men, could not put his campaign back together again after his drubbing on Tuesday. Besides, this was a fellow running mostly on his own financing and sooner or later the accountants had to say, whoa, where are we going here? I mean after all, pretty hard to be a fiscal conservative and not appreciative of what you are spending! One kind of got the feeling that the money no matter how much they spent was not an issue with this campaign!
In his parting speech to his conservative constituency, Mitt told them, that it was more out of honor to the party than being dead last in public support, that he was stepping down. After all if the Republicans don’t win because of his splitting the vote, how could he sleep! “Frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding the surrender to terror.” Ouch!
Not to fear though, conservatives still have Huckabee. And his speech last weekend should let them know someone out there is still in it for them. This particular comment should have us all a bit concerned. “Some of my opponents, do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that’s what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards.” And if that doesn’t make you a little queasy, you can check out how he feels about feminism and some other things at this site. Bottom line, one conservative down, and one to go. But what about McCain you may be saying?
Well he is not in the best of graces with the party right now. He supports the war and they like that, but he knows full well that immigration is not the issue most pressing. Not most pressing because it will effect, big business. And after all, isn’t business what the party is all about! Plus he has this nasty habit of trying to build coalitions with Democrats to get things done. Talk about old school!
Not to celebrate just yet. Why, because what the Republican/conservative/big business/ pro global economy party has an agenda! And right now that agenda is to get elected. They have an entire bag of sound bites and hot buttons ready to use to get Joe America to the poles to fight off – you guessed it; Democrats. Unfortunately Democrats main platform right now is based on the last eight years of Bush economics, warring, and fear politicking. Not to mention our two main candidates are spending millions fighting each other teaching America what is wrong with the other! Saying that we want to talk about, health social security, fiscal responsibility and an end to the war ASAP, isn’t near as glamorous, as saying, Democrats are supporting, a campaign, “to surrender to terror.”
